Plane grinding is basically the initial specimen removal which is then followed up with fine grinding which is the process that uses grinding disks to remove hard and soft phases. Then comes polishing. Polishing is a two-step process as well. Step one is Diamond Polishing where diamonds are used as an abrasive to remove extra material and offer best possible planeness. The second step is the Oxide Polishing where oxide helps in obtaining the best quality and uses a combination of chemical activity and gentle abrasion to produce scratch free specimens.
